On the morning of July 10, Aqorda announced that Qasym-Jomart Toqayev had sent a response letter to Donald Trump regarding the imposition of new tariffs on Kazakhstan.
The Head of State emphasized that Kazakhstan, as a longstanding trade and investment partner of the United States of America, is committed to developing fair, predictable, and mutually beneficial trade relations. The President of Kazakhstan confirmed our country's readiness to continue a constructive dialogue in order to reach a rational solution to trade issues. Qasym-Jomart Toqayev expressed confidence in achieving a compromise on the trade problem, the Aqorda statement said.
The text of the letter sent to Trump was not released by the presidential administration.
On July 7, the President of the United States sent letters to the leaders of several countries about the introduction of new tariffs starting August 1. Qasym-Jomart Toqayev was among the recipients. In the letter sent to him by Trump, it was stated that additional tariffs of 25% would be imposed on goods from Kazakhstan.
However, experts noted that the new tariffs would affect only a minimal portion of Kazakhstan’s exports to the U.S., since the bulk of the shipments consist of raw materials not subject to the new duties.
