New Foreign Directors Join Kazakhstan’s State Investment Holding Baiterek

Baiterek, Kazakhstan’s state-owned investment holding company, elected a new 10-member Board of Directors. Three independent directors were replaced compared with the previous board, Orda.kz reports.

The new Board of Directors includes:

Fred Hu (Hu Fred Zuliu) is a chinese economist and investor and the founder, chairman and CEO of private equity firm Primavera Capital Group. He previously served as a partner and chairman of Greater China at Goldman Sachs and worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Janusz Walenty Piechociński is a polish economist and former senior politician. From 2012 to 2015, he served as Poland’s deputy prime minister and minister of economy. He now heads the Poland–Asia Chamber of Commerce and advises companies and investment funds. He also participated in observing Kazakhstan’s 2022 presidential election.

Dato’ Charon Wardini Mokhzani is a malaysian banker, investor and corporate lawyer. He chairs the Export-Import Bank of Malaysia and insurance company Takaful Malaysia, as well as the Malaysian branch of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council.

Three other foreign independent directors were not included on the new board: Marie-Hélène Bérard of France, Daniel Alan Witt of the United States and Norbert Manfred Grundke of Germany.

Olzhas Bektenov, Nurlybek Nalibayev, Serik Zhumangarin, Nurlan Baibazarov, Madi Takiyev, Yersayyn Nagaspayev and Baiterek Management Board Chairman Rustam Karagoyshin retained their seats.
