Polish energy group Unimot has arranged a shipment of South American crude oil to Germany’s PCK Schwedt refinery after deliveries of Kazakh oil through the Druzhba pipeline were halted in May, Orda.kz reports, citing Unimot.

The tanker arrived at the Polish port of Gdańsk in July. The crude will be transported to the German refinery through the pipeline network operated by Polish company PERN.

Unimot said the shipment was significant beyond the individual transaction, as using Polish infrastructure strengthens the energy security of both Poland and Germany. Another shipment from a non-eastern source is planned for July.

The alternative supplies became necessary after Russia halted the transit of Kazakh oil through the Druzhba pipeline on May 1, forcing the German refinery to seek other sources.
