On the sidelines of the Majilis, journalists asked deputy Yermurat Bapi why Nursultan Nazarbayev’s health has been classified as a state secret, Orda.kz reports.
The amendment to the law "On State Secrets" was recently adopted by the parliament.
Information about measures to ensure the safety of the ex-president and his family, his health, and his personal life is considered a state secret. Journalists asked why the special status of Elbasy was canceled if the deputies are again granting privileges to the ex-president.
I think they added health just to distract society. The fact that the health of the ex-President will be a secret serves as his guarantee against risks inside and outside the country. (...) Later Toqayev will become the ex-President. They need a guarantee. But what does this have to do with the family? In America and other countries, the relatives often get into scandals, said Bapi.
Journalists suggested that Nazarbayev's supporters remain in the Majilis since this amendment came to the Senate from there.
The issue concerns not only the Majilis. The amendment to the law on state secrets was initiated by the relevant state bodies. The Majilis most likely considered it without my participation. I can't say anything. I'm not in the know because I wasn't there, I was on sick leave for 20 days, he answered.
