Majilis deputy Yermurat Bapi discussed former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's trip to Russian leader Vladimir Putin with Elmedia, Orda.kz reports.
He linked Nazarbayev's meeting with Putin with the criminal case "Kazakhgate-2" being prepared in the US.
According to my information, a new grand scandal called "Kazakhgate-2" is brewing in the United States of America. The United States Department of Justice is preparing a new criminal case against global kleptocrats who once used the services of citizens of the United States, companies, insurance companies and other entities, including experts. If these kleptocrats once used the services of entities of the United States of America, then a criminal case is opened against them. I have such insider information, said Bapi.
He noted that “no guarantee will save you if the former leader violated the national laws of a particular country.”
It seems to me that all these efforts, the trip of former President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the Kremlin, to Moscow for a reception with Putin and the introduction of a new norm in the law on state secrets of the Republic of Kazakhstan - all this is connected, it seems to me, with this upcoming world scandal. We will just have to wait until Pandora's box opens, or rather explodes, said Bapi
The Majilis deputy also spoke about the new amendments that would make information about the health and personal lives of former presidents and their families a state secret.
On December 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin received former Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence. However, the meeting was not detailed.
"Kazakhgate" is an international corruption scandal that erupted in the late 1990s and early 2000s, involving allegations of high-level corruption in Kazakhstan, including alleged bribes paid by Western oil companies to Kazakhstan's officials for access to oil fields, KazTAG writes.
The main defendant in the case was American banker and lawyer James Giffen.
