The Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of Kazakhstan, Major General Mereke Kuchekbayev, announced new details of the investigation into the death of conscript Marat Barkulov, which occurred on September 7, 2024, in the Mangystau region, Orda.kz reports.
The case against platoon commander Lieutenant Dosov is currently before the Astana Military Court.
Dosov, a recent military university graduate, arrived at the unit in August 2024 and was deployed to the Oimasha training ground in September.
The incident has triggered a series of disciplinary actions initiated by the Minister of Defense:
- Major General Bauyrzhan Artykov, commander of the Regional Command "West," faces disciplinary action
- Colonel Sadikov, head of air defense troops for Regional Command "West," has been removed from his position
- Three officers received warnings for incomplete service compliance
- Four additional officers face disciplinary sanctions
This follows Kuchekbayev's earlier report on the investigations into both Barkulov's death and that of another soldier, Dastan Kurmanbek.
The investigations revealed command failures, including inadequate psychological support and assistance with military adaptation.
Kuchekbayev noted that while Lieutenant Dosov faces criminal charges, the broader responsibility extends beyond the military.
