Man Sentenced to Community Service for Stalking Woman in Almaty Region

The Enbekshikazakh District Court sentenced a man to 60 hours of community service for stalking a woman. He repeatedly called and messaged her on WhatsApp, including at night, despite her refusal to communicate with him, Orda.kz reports, citing the court.

The dispute concerned the minor son of the defendant’s partner. The boy was living with the victim, who is married to his maternal uncle. The defendant believed that she was keeping the child unlawfully and began trying to contact her.

Since the autumn of 2025, the man had regularly called the woman and sent her text and voice messages on WhatsApp. She made it clear that she did not want any contact, but he continued.

The calls and messages became particularly frequent between February 10 and 12, 2026, including during the night. The man later deleted some of the messages and call records.

The stalking affected the woman’s daily life. She became afraid for her safety, left home less often, experienced sleep problems and suffered emotional distress.

As a result of the unlawful actions, the victim experienced anxiety and feared for her safety. She was forced to change her usual way of life and restrict her movements,the court said.

The defendant admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. The court found no aggravating circumstances and convicted him of stalking under Article 115-1 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code.

In addition to 60 hours of community service, he was ordered to pay five monthly calculation indices, or 21,625 tenge, into the Victim Compensation Fund.
