A woman from Almaty was forced to move house and change jobs several times due to harassment by her ex-husband. He has now been sentenced to 100 hours of community service, Orda.kz reports
Following their divorce, he began stalking her. He tracked his ex-wife's movements, interfered in her private life, pressured her into contact, sent threatening messages, and started conflicts at her workplace and in public places.
The woman contacted the police. A protective order was issued, but he violated it. As a result, he was punished administratively.
Due to the ongoing pressure and fear, the woman had to move house several times, change jobs, and seek state protection.
The court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 100 hours of community service. He was also ordered to pay a mandatory contribution to the victims’ compensation fund.
We previously reported on a stalker in Astana who received a custodial sentence for harassing a woman. Specifically, as in the Almaty case, the court initially sentenced him to 100 hours of community service and ordered him to pay moral damages. However, it later emerged that the man was already serving a restricted freedom sentence and had violated its conditions. The unserved part of that sentence was therefore replaced with actual imprisonment.
