U.S. Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff has accused Donald Trump’s family of corruption over a tungsten deal in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
According to Ossoff, the U.S. president’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, received a stake in a company shortly before the project secured $1.6 billion in support from U.S. government agencies.
Six days after Prince Eric and Prince Don received their stake, Kazakhstan announced that their related company would acquire the largest known undeveloped tungsten deposit in the world, the senator said.
Ossoff called the case only a small part of a broader corruption scheme surrounding the president’s family. He also described them as “the Mar-a-Lago mafia” and said they had taken “American corruption to completely new, unimaginable heights.”
If you were part of all this, next year you will raise your right hand before the U.S. Congress and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God,Ossoff said.
The case concerns the Northern Katpar and Upper Kairakty projects in central Kazakhstan. The field licenses belong to Severniy Katpar LLP. Cove Kaz Capital Group received a 70% stake in the company, while the remaining 30% was retained by Kazakhstan’s national mining company Tau-Ken Samruk.
According to the Financial Times, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump invested in Skyline Builders Group, which later announced a merger with Cove Kaz Capital and Kaz Resources. Cove Kaz described the asset as the largest known undeveloped tungsten resource in the world.
Tungsten is considered a strategically important metal for the defense industry. The United States has not produced it commercially since 2015 and is trying to reduce its dependence on Chinese supplies.
