Kazakhstan is seeing an increase in student visa denials for participants of the Bolashak program, Orda.kz reports.
Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek said the problem is not related to the number of applicants, but to restrictions imposed by host countries.
About 30% of those who have already been selected for Bolashak and have received invitations apply for visas and are refused. We have to transfer them either to other universities or to other countries. he said.
According to him, against this background, there is a decline in admissions in certain fields. At the same time, Kazakhstan is experiencing another trend — growing interest from foreign students.
The minister noted that due to the unstable situation in the world, the number of students transferring to Kazakhstani universities, including from the Middle East, has increased.
Last academic year, we had more than 35,000 foreign students. This year, we expect a very large influx; there is already a large number of applications. he said.
He added that Kazakhstan continues to develop infrastructure for admitting foreign students, including launching a single digital portal for admissions. According to him, the country expects to increase the number of foreign students to 100,000 in the coming years.
