Moscow has claimed dozens of UAVs flew towards Russia through the territory of the West Kazakhstan region, Orda.kz reports.
Speaking after the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting on June 30 in Cholpon-Ata, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow had registered incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) flying through Kazakhstan’s airspace toward Russian targets.
Kazakh friends assured that they are taking the necessary measures in their contacts with the Ukrainian side to put an end to such practices,
said Lavrov.
He added that “the relevant services of the countries are in contact on this issue.”
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the alleged incidents occurred on June 19 and 20, involving dozens of drones reportedly passing over the West Kazakhstan region before continuing into Russian territory.
The Ministry’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, described the events as a provocation by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against a CSTO ally, calling for a response from the international community.
Kazakhstan, however, has denied the claims. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aybek Smadiyarov stated that the information regarding drone overflights or launches was untrue.
He noted that an investigation is underway, conducted by the Ministry of Defense and law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, on June 19, residents in the Mangystau Region reported an unidentified flying object.
Authorities later said the object was found in a remote area and posed no danger. Similar debris was discovered on June 22 in the Atyrau Region, with earlier fragments also recorded in West Kazakhstan.
