The Kremlin has attributed U.S. President Donald Trump’s sharp criticism of Vladimir Putin to heightened emotional tension surrounding the ongoing conflict, Orda.kz reports, citing RBK.
Trump had earlier reacted to Russian strikes on Ukraine, stating that while he had maintained good relations with Putin in the past, “something happened.” He described the Russian leader as having "completely lost his mind" and condemned Russia’s use of missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities as unnecessary and indiscriminate violence.
In response, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov suggested that Trump’s remarks reflected the emotional strain felt by all parties amid delicate negotiation efforts:
The start of the negotiation process, for which the American side has made great efforts, is a very important achievement. We are grateful to the Americans and personally to President Trump for their assistance in organizing and launching the negotiation process. This is a very important moment, which is associated with an emotional overload of absolutely everyone and with emotional reactions.he said.
Peskov reiterated that all of President Putin’s decisions are made in the interest of Russia, pointing to the May 9 parade as an example, where foreign leaders present witnessed attacks on Russian regions, including Moscow.
Commenting on reports that Ukraine may now use long-range weapons without restrictions, Peskov warned that if true, such actions could contradict efforts toward a political resolution. This followed a statement by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirming the removal of range limitations on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons.
