Kazakhstan’s Auyl party held an extraordinary congress on June 23, where it changed its chairman and amended its charter, Orda.kz reports.
Serik Yegizbayev announced that he was stepping down as party chairman. He linked the decision to political changes in Kazakhstan after constitutional reform and the need to revise the party’s work.
My decision to step down as party chairman is a natural step, demonstrating the party’s readiness for internal dynamics and its intention to fully participate in the upcoming elections under the new political system, the statement said.
Yegizbayev said he would remain in the party and support the new chairman.
He nominated his deputy, Kairat Aituganov, for the position. Congress delegates unanimously supported his candidacy.
Congress delegates also approved amendments to the party charter in line with the updated Constitution.
