Kazakhstan’s average monthly salary rose to 461,486 tenge over the year, but real incomes continued to decline after inflation, Orda.kz reports, citing the Bureau of National Statistics.
In the first quarter of 2025, the average salary stood at 423,133 tenge. Over the year, it increased by 38,353 tenge, or 9.1%. But this was only nominal growth — the amount in tenge rose, while purchasing power fell.
Adjusted for inflation, real wages declined. The real wage index was 97.7%. In simple terms, salaries were higher on paper, but people could buy less with that money.
The median salary, which more accurately reflects what most people earn, was 331,527 tenge. A year earlier, it was 300,307 tenge. The gap between the average and median salary is nearly 130,000 tenge. That means the figure of 461,000 tenge may look impressive, but many Kazakhstanis do not see that amount in their own wallets.
Wages rose the most over the year in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, at 20.3%; finance and insurance, at 18.1%; and water supply, at 16.5%. Growth was more modest in education, at 4.2%, and health care, at 7%.
By region, wages increased most noticeably in Abay region, at 14.2%; Pavlodar region, at 12.4%; Zhetisu region, at 12.2%; Almaty region, at 10.9%; and Almaty, at 10.7%.ё
