Kazakhstan Near Bottom of Retirement Comfort Ranking

Kazakhstan was near the bottom of a ranking of countries for comfortable retirement. Analysts placed the country in 77th place out of 89 — below China and Turkey, but above Iran, Orda.kz reports.
According to EnergyProm, the authors of the U.S. News & World Report ranking surveyed almost 17,000 people and assessed countries based on the cost of living, taxes, climate, healthcare, and comfort level.
Kazakhstan took 77th place out of 89 — between Ghana and Azerbaijan. Below Kazakhstan are Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. Iran came last.
European countries, as well as New Zealand, Australia and Canada, are at the top of the list.
According to the ENPF, 15.3 million people receive a pension in Kazakhstan. Almost 40% of ENPF depositors surveyed in 2024 said pension savings were their main hope for old age — more than four years earlier. Every fourth Kazakhstani counts on a state pension; 15.6% count on other savings, and 11.6% rely on their own business.
Earlier, the Orda.kz reported that Kazakhstan’s pension and social system suffers from hundreds of billions in inefficient spending, dozens of systemic errors, and fraudulent schemes involving fictitious income.
