The government of Kazakhstan is strengthening industrial safety measures following President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev's criticism of the Kazakhmys corporation, Orda reports.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a working meeting where he directed the Ministries of Emergency Situations, Industry, Labor, and Social Protection to develop proposals that will increase the accountability of business owners and enterprise managers for violations that endanger workers' lives.
The authorities will monitor subsoil users' mining operation plans to ensure timely funding of industrial safety measures.
Specifically, new standards for mine degasification will be introduced — this should reduce the risk of gas emissions and prevent tragedies in areas where they frequently occur.
The Ministry of Digitalization will also be involved. The agency has been tasked with developing special technologies to help improve safety levels at production facilities.
On February 17, seven miners died at Kazakhmys' Zhomart mine in the Ulytau region.
