Toqayev Lambasts Kazakhmys after Zhomart Mine Incident

Following the tragic incident at the Zhomart mine in the Ulytau region, President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev criticized the situation with labor safety in Kazakhstan and gave the government corresponding instructions, Orda.kz reports.
According to Aqorda, the President called labor safety in Kazakhstan "unacceptable."
He noted that the mines are poorly equipped with industrial safety systems, and the established labor safety requirements are grossly violated.
Companies do not invest enough in projects aimed at ensuring safe working conditions. All this leads to man-made accidents, deaths and injuries to workers,Qasym-Jomart Toqayev
The President instructed the government to take essential measures to ensure the safety of Kazakhstanis working in hazardous industries:
- Audit facilities to determine their compliance with industrial safety standards
- Develop and implement modern safety systems
- Introduce digitalization - automated forecasting and warning systems
- After the audit, consider the issue of increasing investments in modern industrial safety systems and adjust the work programs of subsoil users
- Tighten mechanisms for supervision and control in the area of industrial safety
The tragedy at the Zhomart mine occurred on February 17.
Seven people died in the Kazakhmys mine. After the accident, deputies demanded measures to strengthen labor safety at the company's facilities.
