Following new sanctions imposed by the United States in mid-November, several countries, including Kazakhstan, stopped servicing UnionPay payment system bank cards issued by Gazprombank, Orda.kz reports, citing TASS.
TASS claims that when trying to withdraw money from an ATM, a warning appears about a technical error or that the bank does not service the card.
Some ATMs display a notification that the bank does not authorize card transactions.
The refusal of service applies to both Gazprombank corporate cards and individual cards with the UnionPay system,
TASS writes.
On November 22, Gazprombank removed the UnionPay card from its website's list of cards available for registration and advised clients to stock up on cash.
On November 21, the US Treasury Department announced a new package of sanctions against Gazprombank and 50 other Russian banks.
