Kazakhstan will not allow an influx of refugees into the country, Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev said, Orda.kz reports.
The minister commented on public concerns after Western media reported that EU countries were considering extraterritorial camps in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for deported migrants. Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry quickly denied the reports.
Kosherbayev said Schengen countries have the right to strengthen border controls because of illegal migration. He added that Kazakhstan is also taking measures to reduce illegal immigration.
We have also taken the same measures. We are also trying to reduce illegal immigration, its scale and number. In general, to eradicate it completely, the minister said.
Kosherbayev added that if citizens still have concerns, the Foreign Ministry is ready to further explain its position through social media.
We will try once again through social networks to clarify and dispel doubts on the main issue,he said.
