Kazakhstan’s government has approved a comprehensive localization plan for the nuclear industry for 2026–2030. The document is aimed at preparing Kazakhstani enterprises to take part in the construction of nuclear power plants, Orda.kz reports.

The Atomic Energy Agency reported the approval of the plan. Specialists from Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP, relevant state bodies, and the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs helped develop the document.

Officials expect the plan to help Kazakhstan create its own industrial base for nuclear energy and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers. To do this, Kazakhstani enterprises will gradually be brought in line with international safety and quality requirements.

The comprehensive plan covers four main areas: creating a regulatory framework, assessing the capabilities of the domestic market, modernizing and launching production, and digitalizing processes.

One of the key mechanisms will be a special register of suppliers of goods, works, and services for the nuclear industry. Companies that are not included in the register will not be able to participate in nuclear power plant construction projects.

The government believes this approach will help select qualified contractors in advance, support Kazakhstani manufacturers, and reduce corruption risks through transparent procedures and constant monitoring of participants.

Officials also expect the plan to attract investment in industry, establish production of new products, and involve local businesses in major infrastructure projects.

It has not yet been specified what level of localization is expected for future nuclear power plant construction or which enterprises are already being considered as potential suppliers.
