Information about nuclear power plant projects may be classified in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Deputy Energy Minister Sungat Yesimkhanov said the state does not plan to classify information about the construction of most energy facilities.
Earlier, the Mazhilis adopted a bill on state secrets in its second reading. The bill expands the list of restricted information, which may include data on the construction and repair of certain secure facilities.
According to Yesimkhanov, however, most information about CHPPs and GRES power plants will remain public.
We do not keep energy projects secret. For the nuclear power plant, such a possibility exists because it is a major project and, most likely, an intergovernmental agreement will be concluded.Yesimkhanov said.
He added that information on energy projects is generally not hidden because such projects go through auctions and tenders involving observers.
