Kazakhstan Plans New Bridge Crossing on Major Route to Russia

The project includes two bridge structures and eight kilometers of new road along the Aktobe–Uralsk–Russian border highway. A funding source has yet to be determined, Orda.kz reports.
The new crossing will be built in West Kazakhstan Region beside the existing bridges over the Ural River, which a technical inspection found to be structurally unsafe.
Although the project includes two bridge structures, they will form a single crossing. A 1,710-meter bridge will span the river’s floodplain, followed by a 513-meter bridge over the main channel.
Following a technical inspection, the existing bridge structures were found to be unsafe. The new crossing is intended to ensure safe, uninterrupted traffic on one of the route’s busiest sections,the Transport Ministry said.
The ministry said the project’s feasibility study has already been completed and approved by the relevant government agencies.
The project is now being prepared for a government review. Its funding source will be determined afterward.
