Reconstruction of the Alimbet checkpoint on the Kazakhstan–Russia border is continuing. Once completed, the checkpoint will handle more traffic and process each vehicle in about four minutes, Orda.kz reports.

The 16.7 billion tenge project is being managed by the Aktobe regional branch of KazAvtoZhol. Construction began in September 2025 and is now 32% complete.

The work is expected to be finished by the end of 2026. The modernized checkpoint will have four lanes in each direction, including one for oversized vehicles.

Automation will reduce the time needed to process vehicles to approximately four minutes each. This will be achieved through a license plate recognition system integrated with the database, the Aktobe Region Akimat said.
