Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry wanted to revise maximum electricity tariffs for 60 power plants from July 1, 2026, but later unexpectedly withdrew the draft from the Open Legal Acts portal, Orda.kz reports.
A total of 60 energy-producing organizations had submitted applications for tariff adjustments. The Energy Ministry justified the revision by the need to repair and modernize equipment.
The decision is aimed at creating financial conditions for timely repair campaigns and equipment renewal. Adoption of the order will not entail negative socio-economic consequences, the draft said.
The document was published for public discussion on June 15. The discussion was supposed to last until June 30, but the Energy Ministry removed the draft ahead of schedule with the note “withdrawn in working order”.
The ministry did not explain the reasons. The withdrawal does not mean the tariff increase has been abandoned. The Energy Ministry may revise the draft and publish it again for discussion.
