Kazakhstan And EU Sign Deals On Airbus Aircraft, Roads And Visa Facilitation

Kazakhstan and the European Union signed a number of documents during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Brussels, Orda.kz reports, citing Akorda.

Tokayev held talks with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Following the meeting, the sides adopted a joint statement and formalized several agreements.

One of the main results was the completion of negotiations on visa facilitation and readmission agreements between Kazakhstan and the EU.

The sides also confirmed their intention to develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, and expand cooperation under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.

The talks also covered critical raw materials, digital technologies, energy, and green hydrogen projects. Kazakhstan and the EU also plan to expand cooperation in education and science through the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programs.

 

Several other documents were signed in Brussels.

Air Astana and Airbus signed a contract for the supply of up to 50 A320neo and A321neo aircraft worth a total of €7.145 billion.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development agreed on the introduction of intelligent transport systems and a grant for the E-zholdary digital platform.

The European Investment Bank and KazAvtoZhol agreed on €150 million in financing for road repair projects in Kazakhstan’s regions that are part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

The total value of the signed agreements and memoranda exceeded $12 billion.
