Kazakhstan’s Sileno and Air Liquide have signed a contract for the future polyethylene plant in Atyrau Region, Orda.kz reports.
The agreement was signed in Belgium during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Europe. Both companies operate in Kazakhstan.
According to KazMunayGas, Sileno LLP signed a long-term contract with Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases LLP. The company will supply nitrogen and dry compressed air for a polyethylene plant with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year.
Air Liquide Karabatan Tech Gases will build two air separation units for the project. They will produce high-purity nitrogen. Investment in the project will total €70 million.
The complex will be located in the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark special economic zone, next to the future Sileno plant. Supplies of technical gases are expected to begin by the end of 2028.
The polyethylene project itself is being implemented in the Karabatan zone in Atyrau Region. According to Sileno, the plant is expected to produce 1.25 million tons of polyethylene per year.
The contract was signed as Kazakhstan and the European Union formalized a number of documents during Tokayev’s visit. These included agreements on the purchase of Airbus aircraft worth €7 billion, road repairs, and visa facilitation.
