Kazakhmys: Some Miners Stop Strike
Work at the Sayaq and Jaisan mines and the Jezkazgan copper smelter has been resumed after successful negotiations, Orda reports.
The employer and workers have reached a unified agreement on working conditions, the Kazakhmys press service reported.
The official statement states that “as a result of negotiations and a comprehensive explanation from the employer, work was resumed at the mines and the copper smelter as of 20:00 on December 19.
Workers had suspended their operations to support colleagues.
A strike occurred in the Ulytau region on December 17 at shaft No. 65 of the Yuzhno-Kazakhstansky mine when the third shift refused to go underground. More than 250 TOO Kazakhmys—Zhezkazgantsvetmet branch workers went on strike.

Later, the Ministry of Labor stated that striking Kazakhmys company employees had violated labor laws.
