Illegal Mining Scheme Cost State Over 2 Billion Tenge

A court in Karaganda Region has handed down a verdict in a case involving illegal iron ore mining. Prosecutors said the company operated without a license for four years and exported ore outside Kazakhstan, causing more than 2 billion tenge in damage to the state, Orda.kz reports.
The violations were uncovered by the specialized environmental prosecutor’s office of Karaganda Region during supervisory checks. Prosecutors then launched a pre-trial investigation.
Three defendants were taken into custody. The court also seized their property worth more than 360 million tenge.
The Shet District Court found all three guilty of illegal subsoil use and sentenced them to different prison terms.
The verdict has not yet entered into force.
