Illegal Database With Millions Of Kazakhstanis’ Data Found In Zhetysu Region

Law enforcement officers in the Zhetysu region have shut down a collection agency that, according to investigators, illegally used a personal data database containing information on 16 million Kazakhstani citizens, Orda.kz reports.
The information system allowed users to search by name, IIN and mobile phone number.
Three people were detained during operational-search activities. Investigators believe they were involved in organizing and using the database. Computers, server equipment and mobile devices were seized during searches.
Authorized searches were carried out at their homes and workplaces. A significant amount of computer equipment and mobile devices that could have been used to store and process personal data was seized,the Zhetysu region police department said.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened against the suspects. Police are looking for the source of the confidential information.
