More than 21,000 people are expected to be drafted during Kazakhstan’s spring conscription campaign, Orda.kz reports.
The spring draft began in Kazakhstan on March 17. Deputy Defense Minister Askar Mustabekov shared details of the campaign.
There is a call-up in almost all regions. In this conscription campaign, it is planned to call up more than 21,000 people, of which more than 11,000 will serve in the ranks of the Armed Forces. Mustabekov said.
About 20,000 conscripts are expected to be called up in the fall.
Mustabekov added that Kazakhstan cannot yet fully abandon compulsory military service. The country’s military currently operates under a mixed model: about 70% of personnel serve under contract, while the remaining 30% are conscripts.
