In Kazakhstan, BIM modelling will become mandatory for major construction projects from July 2026. The Ministry of Industry has approved the relevant list, Orda.kz reports.
BIM is the digital modelling of buildings and infrastructure at all stages, from design to operation.
The list includes large and socially significant facilities. As early as August 2026, the technology will become mandatory, for example, for schools with a capacity of 600 students or more. The list also includes airports, bridges longer than 100 metres, tunnels, metro systems and other infrastructure projects.
From 2028, the requirements will be expanded. They will apply to kindergartens with 95 places or more, boarding schools, university campuses, as well as residential and public buildings from three to six floors.
The list also includes energy, oil and gas, transport infrastructure and healthcare facilities, from power plants to trunk pipelines and hospitals.
By 2030, BIM will become mandatory for almost all construction projects, except for the simplest third-level responsibility facilities.
