After leaving the Foreign Ministry, Aibek Smadiyarov has been appointed head of the Domestic Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Orda.kz reports.
President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev signed the decree appointing Smadiyarov to the post, according to Aqorda.
Until recently, Smadiyarov served as the official spokesperson for Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For several years, he represented the ministry and worked closely with journalists on a wide range of diplomatic issues.
Last Tuesday, Smadiyarov said farewell to reporters, noting that he had grown professionally alongside them over the years.
His departure from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs follows other personnel changes within the ministry.
At the end of September, Murat Nurtleu resigned as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He now also works in the presidential administration, overseeing investments. In October, his first deputy, Akan Rakhmetullin, also left the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was appointed Kazakhstan's Ambassador to the Netherlands.
