Forest Fire Breaks Out in Bayanaul National Park

A forest fire broke out in Bayanaul National Park on August 2. Crews stopped it from spreading after 27 tons of water were dropped from the air, but patrols are continuing for hidden hotspots, Orda.kz reports.
The fire was recorded in Compartment 17 of the park’s Zhasybai forestry area.
According to the Ecology Ministry, national park employees and regional emergency crews were deployed to the scene. Additional personnel and equipment were also sent, while an Ecology Ministry helicopter was dispatched from Pavlodar.
The Emergency Situations Ministry reported that forest litter and tree roots were burning as of 11:08 p.m. on August 2. Aircraft dropped 27 tons of water, stopping the fire from spreading.
National park employees are now inspecting the area for hidden hotspots that could cause the fire to reignite.
Five forest fires were reported across Kazakhstan on August 2: one in the Akmola Region, one each in Bayanaul and Ile-Alatau national parks, and two in Katon-Karagay National Park.
