EAEU Eases Freight Restrictions On Key Transport Corridors

Logisticians in the EAEU will no longer have to split consignments between several vehicles or reload trucks because of different weight rules in member states, Orda.kz reports.
Since May 17, the EAEU has introduced uniform requirements for vehicle weight, axle loads, and dimensions on Eurasian transport corridors.
The agreed rules will now apply to trucks on these routes. Carriers will no longer have to adjust to stricter restrictions in a particular country, obtain an additional special permit, or transfer part of the cargo to another vehicle.
The agreement will certainly play an important role in reducing transportation costs and improving the servicing of cargo flows, said Arzybek Kozhoshev, minister of energy and infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
Previously, differing requirements made it difficult for businesses to plan loads properly. Vehicles were not loaded to maximum capacity, but with a safety margin so they could cross EAEU borders without violations.
The uniform rules will now apply to more than 14,000 km of EAEU roads. The commission believes this will reduce carrier costs and speed up the movement of goods within the union.
