Crypto Entrepreneur Roman Novak and His Wife Killed in UAE

Well-known St. Petersburg crypto entrepreneur Roman Novak and his wife Anna were killed in the United Arab Emirates, Orda.kz reports.
According to investigators, the couple was lured to a meeting with someone posing as an investor. When the attackers realized that the couple’s cryptocurrency wallet was empty, they killed and dismembered them.
Bags containing their remains were later discovered in Fujairah, and police quickly tracked the suspects’ movements using CCTV footage.
As Fontanka reports, Novak was infamous in the crypto community. In 2020, he was convicted of fraud after investors lost millions in the Transcrypt project. Following his release, he fled abroad — living lavishly in Bali and Dubai while promoting a new venture, the Fintopio app.
Damages from his past activities are estimated at around $500 million, and some believe his death was retribution for past debts.
Authorities in the UAE have identified eight suspects, including three alleged organizers — one a former St. Petersburg homicide detective previously convicted on drug charges. Investigators say the group rented a villa and arranged the fake investor meeting, recruiting five young men as unwitting accomplices.
The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing.
