Conscript Dies at National Security Committee Military Unit

A conscript soldier died in Mangystau Region, reportedly as a result of safety violations during technical work, Orda.kz reports.
The tragedy occurred on October 7 on the premises of the local department of the Border Service. A criminal case has been opened, and an internal investigation is underway. The Border Service of the National Security Committee extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, the agency said in a statement.
Since the beginning of 2025, the Kazakh armed forces have seen a series of similar incidents.
Last month, in Almaty Region, 19-year-old Dinmukhamed Shynarbek was found dead at a military unit in Matybulak. The official version stated that he took his own life, but his family disputes this, demanding the president’s intervention and an independent investigation.
In September, a conscript from an airborne unit died during shooting exercises at the Jetisu training range, after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound. The military claimed the death was caused by safety violations. A criminal case was opened, and the Minister of Defense announced that the situation was “under control.”
In May, 18-year-old conscript Salamat Sabitov died in Ayagoz. His family claims he was drafted despite serious medical conditions, under threat of fines and criminal charges. He served for less than a month before dying of meningitis. The ministry confirmed his death and stated that an investigation was underway.
Earlier this year, in Saryozek, 18-year-old Dastan Kurmanbek died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The same military unit had faced controversy a year earlier, when soldier Temirbek Mynzhasarov was shot and wounded and later kept in a rented apartment instead of being hospitalized. His father accused the command of attempting to cover up the incident.
