Tartous Port has received its first direct shipment from China, signaling the resumption of maritime trade between the two countries as Syria seeks to rebuild its war-damaged economy, Orda.kz reports, citing SANA.
According to the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, the commercial vessel Queen Vivian arrived from China carrying over 16,000 tons of steel and industrial equipment for a Shanghai-based company. The authority noted that this marks the first direct import operation from China through the port in years.
Earlier this month, Tartous also received a ship from Brazil carrying 32,800 tons of raw sugar — part of Syria’s effort to stabilize food supplies and expand trade through maritime routes.
