Belarusian citizen Denis Fursa was extradited to his home country on June 4. Earlier, he had alleged moral and physical pressure from the administration of a pre-trial detention center in Astana, Orda.kz reports.

In early June, Oksana Sokolova, Fursa’s common-law partner, contacted Orda.kz. She said that after a video appeal about alleged violations of his rights was published, he was cut off from communication. According to her, a handwritten letter later became the reason for physical violence by detention center staff.

Sokolova also explained how Fursa obtained the mobile phone he used to contact her. She said the device had been provided by his employer at the site where he worked while serving his sentence in a settlement colony.

In April 2025, the Burabay District Court found Fursa administratively liable under the article on obscene language in family and domestic relations, Article 73 of Kazakhstan’s Administrative Code. The court imposed special behavioral restrictions, including a ban on contacting Sokolova against her will.

On May 9, 2025, the court sentenced him to two years in prison for theft. According to the case file, Fursa illegally entered Sokolova’s home through a vent window and stole two silver chains worth 30,000 tenge. He was sent to a settlement colony, where he later recorded his appeal.

After Fursa’s statements, Belarusian authorities requested his extradition. He was transferred to the pre-trial detention center in Astana, where communication with him was later interrupted. Sokolova also said she was denied visits and could not reach him.

On May 26, she received a note that, according to her, was passed on by another prisoner during a visit with his mother.
Some woman sent me a note. I called her. She must have had a visit with her son, and he passed it on today. They took a picture and sent it to me,Sokolova said.

The editorial board sent an official request to the administration of the pre-trial detention center. A week later, the administration said Fursa had been extradited to Belarus on June 4, but did not answer whether an internal inspection had been conducted into the allegations of pressure raised in the video appeal.
