Astana Gets a Third of Its Monthly Rainfall in One Day

Nearly 70% of Astana’s average monthly rainfall fell over two days, flooding roads and prompting emergency crews to assist residents and tow stranded vehicles, Orda.kz reports, citing the akimat.
On July 23, a cloudburst brought 11.4 mm of rain in just 22 minutes. Total rainfall for the day reached 18.2 mm—about one-third of the monthly average.
Another 20.8 mm fell on July 22, bringing the two-day total to 39 mm.
Water accumulated on several roads, and city services began working in an emergency mode.
Units from the Ministry of Emergency Situations were also deployed. Rescuers assisted residents, towed vehicles stuck in the water and helped motorists navigate flooded sections of roads.
The ministry urged residents and visitors to avoid flooded roads unless absolutely necessary and follow official updates.
Emergency operations are continuing.
