The prosecutor’s office in the Abay region has uncovered another leak of personal data—this time involving schoolteachers. The personal information of staff at three schools was published online; the schools themselves were responsible for the breach, Orda.kz reports.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the data of 194 teachers was exposed. The violation was discovered during routine monitoring of the government procurement website. While placing orders for mandatory medical examinations, the schools publicly posted complete employee lists, containing sensitive information such as individual identification numbers (IIN) and passport details.
By law, such personal data is considered confidential and cannot be disclosed online without prior consent or legal justification. In doing so, school administrators put their staff at serious risk.
Following the intervention of the prosecutor’s office, the principals of the schools were fined a total of over one million tenge, and disciplinary measures were taken. The institutions have pledged to prevent similar breaches in the future.
This incident follows an earlier scandal in which an archive containing the personal data of 16 million Kazakhstanis appeared online.
A criminal investigation was launched, and the leadership of National Information Technologies JSC was replaced. Preliminary findings suggested that medical institutions may have been the source of that leak.
