The Appeals Board of the Military Court has reviewed appeals filed by the defendants, their lawyers, and the injured party in the case of 19-year-old Zhasulan Abdimanap’s homicide in Saryagash, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakh army corporal Murod Abdizhamilov and his two friends, Dias Ibragimov and Adina Mamayeva, were convicted earlier this year.
On August 12, Abdizhamilov was sentenced to 15 years in prison under Article 99, Part 1 (homicide). Ibragimov and Mamayeva were convicted under Article 434 (“Failure to report a serious crime”).
Ibragimov received four years, later reduced to two years and eight months under a Constitution Day amnesty, while Mamayeva was sentenced to four years.
Custody of her young child has been placed under the social protection authorities.
The injured party’s lawyer, Nurtugan Omirzak, sought to reclassify the case as premeditated homicide by prior conspiracy under Article 99, Part 2, and to increase civil compensation claims.
Zhasulan’s mother, Raikhan Zhamalova, testified that all three should be tried as accomplices.
My son was stabbed 14 times, brutally homicideed. Ibragimov was next to Abdizhamilov, saw everything, and didn’t help. Now the two of them are sitting here, showing no regret. They haven’t even asked our family for forgiveness, she said.
Defense lawyers argued the case relied only on circumstantial evidence and should be dismissed. However, the Appeals Board upheld the original verdict.
The only change concerned compensation claims, with the injured party granted the right to file a new civil suit.
Abdimanap, a resident of the Turkistan Region’s Saryagash District, disappeared on February 20, 2025. He was found two days later with 14 stab wounds.
Lawyers for the family said he fell victim to a so-called “village mafia” — youths who extort money from younger villagers, often forcing them into loans and microloans.
