Yekibastuz: Young Woman Reported Sexual Assault, Ended Up Under Investigation

A 19-year-old woman filed a sexual assault report with the police, Orda.kz reports, citing NeMolchi.kz.
According to the victim, the alleged assailant was her boyfriend's friend, who lured her to a service station by deception. The young woman received various injuries, including to her genitals, and needed medical attention.
The suspect admitted guilt during the investigation but was not taken into custody.
According to NeMolchi, he repeatedly contacted the young woman and threatened her with retaliation. Eventually, she withdrew her complaint.
We reached out to the Pavlodar Regional Police Department for comment.
They confirmed that a criminal case had been investigated based on the Yekibastuz resident's statement:
A set of investigative procedures was conducted, which concluded that the incident occurred by mutual consent,authorities stated.
A criminal case has been opened against the young woman for knowingly providing false information.
NeMolchi maintains that the young woman withdrew her statement under duress and insists the suspect should face an additional charge for issuing threats to avoid criminal liability.
Earlier in Abay, a 15-year-old girl was forcibly "married" by her stepfather to a 38-year-old man. After five days of abuse, the girl was able to escape.
