A tragic accident took place at the East Zhezkazgan mine in Kazakhstan’s Ulytau region, where a worker born in 1994 fell into the shaft and died on the spot due to severe injuries, Orda reports.
Kazakhmys has temporarily suspended mining operations for inspection purposes.
The company extended condolences to the victim’s family and pledged to cover funeral expenses and provide necessary assistance. A special commission has been formed to investigate the circumstances.
Kazakhmys management decided to halt production in high-risk areas until a comprehensive safety inspection is completed.
A comprehensive inspection of all technological processes will be carried out. We will check the compliance of workplaces with safety requirements, recertify engineering and technical personnel, and inspect rescue equipment. Only after the violations have been remedied will work at these facilities be resumed,

Additionally, the company has launched unscheduled emergency drills to improve employee preparedness for crisis situations.
This incident follows a tragedy at the Zhomart mine in February, where seven miners lost their lives. Authorities pledged a thorough investigation and support for the victims' families.
Over the past 12 years, at least 18 people have died, and seven others have been injured due to various incidents at Kazakhmys enterprises, raising concerns about workplace safety and enforcement of regulations.
