Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, claims that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a letter to Donald Trump, describing this as an essential step representing progress in their relations, Orda.kz reports, citing Fox News.
Witkoff expressed that there have been numerous discussions between American, Ukrainian, and European teams, and he characterized these talks as making progress, expressing hope that a deal will eventually be reached.
The relationship between the two leaders has been strained, as evidenced by Zelensktyy's meeting with Trump in Washington in late February, which ended in a heated debate. The Ukrainian president departed from the White House earlier than scheduled, and a planned agreement between the United States and Ukraine regarding rare earth metals was canceled.
On March 10, Zelensky arrived in Saudi Arabia for meetings with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. New talks between Ukraine and the United States regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict settlement are scheduled for the following day.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that if the United States is satisfied with the results of the meeting with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, American military aid to Kyiv would resume. He suggested that decisions regarding a pause in military assistance would depend on the outcome of these discussions.
Rubio also mentioned that while the United States still hopes to conclude a natural resources deal, it remains uncertain whether such an agreement will be finalized in Saudi Arabia, as the details have not yet been fully developed.
