A Warsaw court has extended the detention of Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Zhuravlev, who was arrested in Poland on suspicion of involvement in the 2022 Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions in the Baltic Sea, Orda.kz reports, citing Reuters.
The 49-year-old diving instructor from Kyiv was detained on September 30 in Pruszków, near Warsaw, under a European arrest warrant issued by Germany. On October 1, a Warsaw court ordered his initial seven-day detention.
On October 6, the court rejected a prosecution request for a 100-day arrest extension but approved a 40-day extension instead, defense lawyer Tymoteusz Paprocki told reporters.
Zhuravlev will remain in custody until November 9 while authorities decide on his extradition to Germany, according to a court spokesperson.
Separately, in mid-September, reports surfaced that an Italian court ordered the extradition of a Ukrainian man, identified only as Serhii K., to Germany over his alleged role in the Nord Stream pipeline explosions in 2022.
At the time of reporting, it was expected he would appeal the decision.
