Uzbekistan has created the US-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the decision immediately after his visit to the United States and participation in the C5+1 summit, Orda.kz reports.
The council will focus on developing and overseeing investment and trade projects between the two countries.
The priority is to coordinate the development and approval of strategic business initiatives, major investment and trade projects, as well as continuously monitor their implementation,
the presidential decree states.
Mirziyoyev appointed his daughter, Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the presidential administration, as co-chair of the new structure. Media outlets have dubbed her the “Uzbek princess.” A representative from the Trump administration will hold the same position on behalf of the United States.
Analysts view Mirziyoyeva’s appointment as a sign of her growing role in economic diplomacy and an indication that Tashkent aims to deepen ties with Washington through the direct involvement of the president’s inner circle.
Incidentally, Komil Allamjonov, an independent adviser to Mirziyoyeva previously joined the Central Asian Studies program at George Washington University’s Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies.
During the C5+1 summit in Washington, Kazakhstan and the United States signed a memorandum on cooperation in critical minerals.
