Uzatom, Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy agency, has signed a cooperation agreement with Hungary’s state-owned enterprise MVM EGI, Orda.kz reports, citing the agency’s press service.
The agreement and a memorandum of understanding were signed during the official visit of Uzbekistan’s president to Hungary. According to Uzatom, the documents outline a framework for collaboration on the construction of nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan.
Production of dry cooling systems for the nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is scheduled to begin in 2026, said Azim Akhmedkhadzhayev, head of Uzatom. According to him, the Hungarian company will send a delegation next month to assess localization opportunities.
As part of the deal, MVM EGI will supply and implement dry cooling systems for nuclear facilities. The parties also agreed to collaborate on scientific research, technology localization, and infrastructure development. Plans include training and professional development programs for nuclear specialists.
In April, construction began on the first stage of a nuclear installation base in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region, part of the country’s small modular reactor project.
In May, production of reactor equipment started at a Russian plant operated by Rosatom.
