US Treasury Sanctions ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan

The US Treasury Department has added Karim Khan, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), to its sanctions list, according to Orda.kz citing BBC's Russian Service.
Khan, who holds British citizenship, was sanctioned following an executive order issued by Donald Trump on February 6th. The order allows for potential sanctions against other ICC staff members as well.
The sanctions come after the ICC's issuance of arrest warrants last year for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
In a White House announcement, Trump stated that neither the United States nor Israel is a signatory to the Rome Statute, the ICC's founding treaty, and, therefore, do not recognize its jurisdiction.
In March 2023, the ICC, under Khan's initiative, also issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, charging them with the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
