Ukraine has not received formal notification from the United States about any suspension or delay in military assistance, the Defense Ministry said on July 2, following media reports that Washington had paused certain arms shipments, Orda.kz reports.
In an official statement, the ministry said it is currently working to clarify the status of existing aid packages and has requested a call with U.S. defense officials for more information.
According to The Kyiv Independent, Presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak also commented, saying that arms deliveries were still ongoing.
It would appear very strange and inhumane to stop supplying missiles for Patriot systems, which protect Ukrainian civilians, Podolyak said during an interview on Freedom TV, addressing questions about a reported pause.
Earlier, Politico reported that the U.S. Department of Defense had halted shipments due to concerns over dwindling U.S. stockpiles. The affected items reportedly include Patriot interceptor missiles, precision artillery rounds, Hellfire missiles, and munitions used by F-16 fighter jets.
The White House confirmed the pause, describing it as part of a broader reassessment of U.S. military assistance programs worldwide.
This decision was made to put America’s interests first following a Department of Defense review of our nation’s military support and assistance to other countries across the globe, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry summoned U.S. Chargé d’Affaires John Ginkel to emphasize that “any delay or hesitation in supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities will only encourage Russia to continue the war rather than pursue peace,” The Kyiv Independent reports.
