The case concerns a former staff member of the now-deceased Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, Orda.kz reports, citing the human rights group «Kovcheg».
Emelyanova was detained in Almaty on August 31, 2025. On February 10, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan approved Russia’s extradition request. The decision raised questions because it was made before her asylum application process had been completed.
The extradition has therefore been temporarily suspended. Human rights activists say the next hearing in Emelyanova’s case is scheduled for February 27.
Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Supreme Court suspended the extradition of Chechen activist Mansur Movlaev.
